Abstract

Personal data protection is one part of personal rights that must be protected and there are threats of sanctions for anyone who violates personal data. The protection ofpersonal data and the threat of sanctions have been regulated in Law No. 19 of 2016 concerning amendments to Law No. 11 of 2008 concerning Electronic Information and Transactions and Law No. 27 of 2022 concerning Personal Data Protection. The purpose of this study is to analyze the form of legal protection of personal data and legalliability for misuse  of personal data. The method used in this research is the normative  juridical  approach  method.  This research shows that the protection of personal data has been regulated in legislation. However, Law No. 19 of 2016 concerning amendments to Law No. 11 of 2008 concerning Electronic Information and Transactions has not made real and explicit privacy data protection regulations, therefore the government has passed Law No. 27 of 2022 concerning Personal Data Protection to regulate the protection of personal data specifically.
