Abstract

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 260,000 women will die every day in 2023 during and after pregnancy and childbirth. Complications during and after childbirth are the leading cause of maternal death, one of which is puerperal infection. Puerperal infection is any bacterial inflammation during labor and the postpartum period. The purpose of this literature review is to identify factors associated with the incidenceof puerperal infection. This study useda systematicreview method, namely a search of both international and national literature. A total of six articles sourced from Google Scholar, Garuda, Sinta, Pubmed, and Science Direct werereviewedbased on inclusion criteria: articles that were accessible in full text in PDF format, in Indonesian or English, and published between 2021 and 2025. The review results of 6 articles show that in general the factors that influence the incidence of postpartum infection are obstetric factors and labor complications (bleeding and prolonged labor, degree of perineal rupture, history of antenatal bleeding), behavioral factors and wound care (quality of vulva hygiene), demographic factors and maternal conditions (age and parity, occupation and anemia).
